In Addition to Puppy-Proofing your home, there are a number of items that you will need for your new Yorkie Babe.  It is important to have these items before your puppy arrives so that you may be fully prepared to care for your puppy.  When you purchase a puppy from My Yorkie Babes, we do supply you with a puppy pack that includes valuable info on how to care for your Yorkie Babe, a small supply of food, and their favorite chew toy. In addition to these items, you will need…

*VERY IMPORTANT:  Puppy Nutrical Dietary Supplement.  It is very important to have this on hand.  It can save your puppies life in case they go into Hypoglycemic shock.  It is a sugar supplement, so if your puppy gets low blood sugar, you give them a small amount on your finger and it can help them get their sugar levels back up so they have the energy to eat their food.

* A small kennel so you can kennel your puppy at night and when you are not around to keep a close eye on him/her.  Your puppy needs to be kenneled in a small kennel.  He/she should be able to stand up, and turn around in the kennel when he/she is full grown.  Do not get too large of a kennel.  Your puppy should not be able to move around too much in its kennel.  If you choose to have your puppy shipped, we will supply a kennel for you.

*Bedding for the kennel that is machine washable.  Puppies can get cold at night and this can cause their blood sugar to drop.  It is important that your puppy has a warm blanket to sleep with in order to ensure that they are comfortable and warm.

*A baby gate or dog pen in order to block your puppy off from restricted areas in your home.  Here is a link to a great, affordable puppy exercise pen.

*A small dog collar (a toy breed collar should be adequate) and leash.

*A pet I.D. tag in order to promote the safe return of your pet if he/she wanders off.  Below is a link for a great place to buy puppy tags.  I recommend having a couple on hand before you bring your puppy home.

*Small dog dishes.  Ensure that your dog dishes are low enough to the ground so that your puppy can easily access his/her food and water.

*Grooming supplies such as a brush, comp, and shampoo.  At Yorkie Babes, we do not recommend that you bathe your puppy until he/she is at least 4 or 5 months old; unless of course he/she is completely soiled, in which case, be sure to use a high quality dog shampoo.  Puppies skin is very sensitive and it can easily dry out.

*High quality dry-puppy food.  We start all our puppies on Royal Canine Puppy Food and recommend continuing your puppy on the same food.

*Healthy puppy snacks to promote training

*A dog tooth brush and tooth paste.  If not cared for, their teeth can become very unhealthy.

*Wheat Germ Oil.  This can e added to their puppy food to help keep their hair soft and shiny.

*Puppy pads can be a great way to train your little yorkie, especially when they are really young.  Many of my clients who have apartments train puppies to solely use a puppy pad.  I DO NOT recommend using disposable pads because they like to shred them and play with them.  I recommend using washable potty pads.  Below is a link to a place with affordable, re-usable, potty pads.
