Puppy-proofing your home is a very important step to take before bringing home your new little Yorkie Babe. Puppies are a lot like having a little toddler around. They are very curious, and they love to get into things. Because of their adventurous nature, it is very important to take the following steps to prepare your home for your new Yorkie Babe.
*Puppies love to chew on everything; therefore, it is important to make sure that all small objects are out of your puppies reach in order to avoid choking hazards. Also, be sure to secure electrical cords. Always have a safe chew toy available for your puppy in order to distract him/her from chewing on things they shouldn’t chew on.
*Be sure that all toxic or harmful chemicals are out of their reach. Toxins such as cleaners, pesticides, and poisons could kill your puppy if they are ingested.
*Avoid placing your Yorkie Babe on high furniture such as couches or beds; it only takes a second for them to fall. Their bones are very fragile, and this could cause them to break.
*Block off your stairs and avoid letting them near them until he/she has mastered them completely.
*Do not leave your puppy alone on a balcony or deck. Because of their small stature, they can easily fit through the railing, and falling from such heights could cause injury or even death.
*Most importantly, do not leave your puppy unattended. It is important to have a safe, restricted area for you puppy when you are not able to watch over him/her. At My Yorkie Babes, we recommend placing your puppy in a small kennel or dog pen in order to avoid potential harm.
